Always Be Thankful

The words “thank you” can go a long way in blessing someone.

What are some ways that we can say thank you?

Hannah was a women who desperately wanted a child. When we first read about her in 1 Samuel 1, she is constantly weeping and crying out to God for a baby. She is taunted mercilessly by her husband’s other wife, who has children, and she suffers terribly from the shame of barrenness.

What is it that you have been “crying” out to God for lately? _____________________

One day Eli, the priest, sees her praying and weeping in the temple, and he promises her she will have a child. As she leaves the temple, she begins to rejoice over God’s promise to her, and not long after that, she becomes pregnant. Eventually she gives birth to Samuel, the priest who brings Israel back to God, and who anoints the nation’s first ( and Second ) king.

Notice that it was only when Hannah began to be thankful that her desire for a child came to pass.

Like Hannah, we have all had “barren” areas in our lives that have caused us pain. But when we praise God, He is free to shower us with His blessings. It’s so important that we be thankful to God for the big things, as well as the little things.
