LBS: "Mercy VS Justice" Giving Mercy

Mercy Vs. Justice

Giving Mercy

Zero tolerance policies for drugs, violence and weapons have been put in place in many, if not most, of the public schools throughout our nation. Zero tolerance laws have even been put in effect for underage people driving under the influence of alcohol. A zero tolerance policy punishes the violation without any consideration for the circumstance. Some have argued that zero tolerance policies are too inflexible and can even be harmful in certain situations. These types of policies leave little, if any, room for mercy.

What happens with a zero tolerance policy where there is no mercy and there is only the law? The Israelites found out first hand. (1 Sam 6:13:20) The ark of the covenant was a box that contained the ten commandments written on stone that God had given Moses. The lid on the ark was the mercy seat sprinkled with blood. Ex 25:21 The Philistines had captured the ark, it had caused them much trouble, so they sent it back to Israel. The men of Israel wanted to find out if the Philistines had taken the law out of the ark so they removed the mercy seat to look into the ark and God killed 50,070 of them that day. God was so serious about wanting people in the ages to come to understand the importance of always having mercy covering the law. God's law has a zero tolerance policy. Rom 6:23 No matter what is done to break God's law the consequence is death. That is why the seat of God's mercy was always to remain covering the law. The men of Bethshemesh had a good reason for wanting to look into the situation, for wanting to get to the bottom of the issue, but they removed mercy and it killed them.

David experienced the same thing......learn more at the next LBS.
