LBS: The Ministry of Friendship

The Ministry of Friendship

The Book of Acts conveys the impression that Christ's followers were close friends who spent much time together. Surely this is pleasing to Jesus, who commanded us to "Love one another," and said that all men would know we were his disciples by the love that we have one for another.

Something's wrong therefore, when a brother or sister in the congregation doesn't feel loved or valued. One law of human nature is that everyone wants to feel like they belong. Those who don't will soon leave.  It's hard to build close friendships at church on sunday morning because there's so little time. Either we have things to do, or else we're hungry and want to go eat. But, wouldn't it be nice if we took  the time to reach out and make someone feel loved and valued? Someone we don't know very well?

We will be starting our secret sisters soon and this could be a time to make someone feel special.

It's strange how friendships can be both strong and delicate at the same time.
