Being Quiet
The person who coined the phrase “Silence is golden” no doubt valued peace and quiet in an increasingly busy and stressful world. In the past fifteen years, noise levels have risen six-fold in major US cities. According to the Census Bureau, noise in neighborhoods is the the top complaint among  Americans. We are constantly being affected by noise. In fact, excessive noise is associated with increased blood pressure, headaches, low frustration tolerance, ringing ears, loss of sleep and hearing loss. Yet the noise that most of us are really desiring relief from is not so much the external sound but a desire for internal quietness. 

(Eccl 5:1-2) Solomon was the wisest man in the world and he had much to say about silence and quietness. He had constant activity and voices around him, yet he sought quietness and silence. He admonishes us to keep quiet and let our words be few. 

Everywhere you go you see people with headsets on, radios turned up in their cars, home entertainment systems blaring in their house. When the songs aren’t playing and voices aren’t chattering and there is just silence, are you haunted because you can’t feel God and feel you are walking in darkness?
