Values

    A value is something that has great worth to us. When we were born,  a "treasure chest" was placed deep inside our lives. As a youth, we looked around and began to select what seemed to have value. We stored each item in our treasure chest. We began selecting our values long before we became born again. Many of these values had nothing to do with our faith in Christ. They were simply collected as we lived. Our values came from our parents, friends culture, textbooks, teachers, media, movies and songs. Without even thinking about it we sorted through hundreds of values, carefully selecting those we considered to have worth. In our treasure chest went values related to power, health,. sex, wealth, freedom, loyalty, honesty, and so on. We also chose people, whom we considered valuable, for our friends. What happens to this value system after we are born again?

Eph 2 1-7 "And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience, among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But, God being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. by grace you have been saved and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grave in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus."

Before we were born again we just went on living, using our treasures from the chest to guide our lives. The Bible says that we were gratifying the cravings of sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts, Our value system became us and we were serving ourselves. But than God touched our lives.
