2 Samuel Chapters 1-2

1. Who did David strike down? (1:1)

   with you answer.

2. What is the Amalekite’s report of how Saul died?

3. How did David and his men respond to the news of Saul’s death (1:12)?

“ And they_____________ and wept and fasted until evening for ____________and for ____________ his son and for the ______________ of the Lord and for the _____________ of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.”

4. How many times does David repeat the phrase, “How the mighty have fallen”?

Who do you think he is referring to?

5. In 2:8, we are introduced to two new characters (although one was first introduced in 1 Samuel). Fill in the chart with their names and descriptions.

Name

6. Note the name of the region with the name of its ruler, as described in 2:8-11:

     ______________________ reigned over Israel (north)

     ______________________ reigned over Israel (south)

Apply: Instead of celebrating the death of Saul, a man who sought to kill David for many years, David chooses to honor him. Think of a time you had the opportunity to respond harshly about someone who mistreated you. What did you do?  What should motivate us to take the “high road” in these situations?

Some parts of our story will be more challenging to answer, but what attribute(s) of God was revealed to you in these chapters.
